Hi I am Gill and I live with my husband and Labradoodle Archie in the West Coast of Scotland. We moved in Sep 2016, after my youngest son left home, to a new house in a new part of the country, where I have the luxury, after years of using dining room table, of my own sewing space. I joke that I didn’t lose a son but gained a sewing room!
I have been sewing for as long as I can remember, handsewing dolls clothes, then for a living doll, my baby sister. I was allowed to use my mums Singer Treadle and with my paper round money bought fabric remnants. My very first garment was a cord tailored jacket, fortunately it was the 80s so puff sleeves were in then 🤣 I jumped in the deep end and survived!
I learnt from books, The Readers Digest Complete Guide to Sewing and The Vogue Sewing Bible. After that came videos, and more recently Craftsy Classes. This has helped me learn so much and has allowed me to create clothes for my whole family, which I love. I always want to learn more though. Two years ago I spent a lot of time making Tweed suits and jackets for my sons and silk dresses for family weddings, and that’s where my blog name came from. I adore working with tweed and silk but have recently developed a passion for denim, knits and lingerie. So I’ll be sharing a bit of everything plus knitting as well. It all mends my soul!
